Residuals, 2023
Series of four column sculptures. An experiment in translation between architecture and image, the forms are based on graphite drawings of natural gas fireplaces. Digitally scanned, the textures and tonal values of the drawings are translated into volumes through a process of light-sensitive 3D modelling. The resulting models were 3D printed in sections using PLA, a thermoplastic monomer derived from renewable, organic sources. The sections were then assembled using wooden armatures and surfaced with layers of fibreglass and Aqua-resin.
